Volunteering for Care is rewarding and satisfying
The support we offer to our community wouldn’t be possible without our excellent volunteers. Many of our volunteer roles can also be adapted to suit a volunteer’s individual needs, especially if you come on board as a member of the Care team.
At the moment we have to prioritise the support we are able to offer, but if we have more volunteers then we can offer more and more support
Our different volunteer roles
The Duty Officer has a crucial role within the organisation. As the person who operates our support number between 09:00-12:00, this person is our main point of contact with our clients and coordinates our operation so that our volunteer drivers can get out and about to offer the support that our clients need.
Duty and Backup Driver
Duty drivers are normally on duty one weekday a month. Priority is given to medical appointments, so often our drivers will drive clients to and from their appointments and will make sure they know where to go when they get to the hospital/GP. Other jobs might include collecting prescriptions and picking up groceries.
We have many clients who are keen to maintain their independence within their own homes but who need support once a week or once a fortnight to manage this. Our one-to-one helpers can help keep clients in their own homes by picking up items from the shops, collecting library books, or perhaps helping with a little gardening.
How to register as a volunteer
Please contact the Duty Office on 01784 431031 between 9am-12pm on weekdays, and your details will be forwarded to the management committee. Applicants will be interviewed by a committee member and you will be asked to provide two referees and a satisfactory DBS check.
We offer support to elderly and disabled members of our community by running essential errands for food, medication, hospital trips, and more.
